“I Have a Dream." Most people know these words belong to Martin Luther King, Jr. They also know that the dream was to have an equal society of races. What people may not realize is what King went through to get there. He had a strict father throughout his childhood and lost his grandmother at a young age. He grew up with racism all around him. In spite of these challenges, King valued education and used it as a foundation for his many accomplishments. Even though he had a rough childhood, Martin Luther King Jr. overcame those challenges and moved on to become one of the most powerful civil rights leaders in America.
Martin Luther King, Jr., is most famous for promoting nonviolent protest and acts of civil disobedience such as sit-ins. He fought for equal rights and fought against poverty. Johnson agreed to work with Martin Luther King, Jr. on poverty and civil rights. Johnson even invited King to witness the signing of the Civil Rights Act and gave the pen used to sign it to King. However, on the issue on the war with Vietnam they did not agree. Johnson supported the war, but Martin wanted to use the money pen the war to boost the economy. Martin wanted young Americans of all races to follow their dreams. His “I Have a Dream” speech is very famous and is studied around the world. His message was a message of peace and love. Martin Luther is a symbolic leader of American Blacks. He showed that one man can impact the country and the world.
